The City of Ottumwa is searching for an Accounting Specialist! This is the first level in our Accounting Series and is responsible for performing a wide range of specialist financial support duties to ensure the accuracy of accounting and financial records and compliance with standard accounting practices and statutes.
Responsibilities may include data entry; balancing department accounts; reconciling accounts; clarifying discrepancies in financial records; performing tax collections; reviewing financial reports; processing and reviewing various accounts receivable transactions; daily cash balance; posting of customer payments; and responding to a variety of inquiries about financial information.
Requirements
Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Management, Finance or related field AND two years in an account or accounts payable/receivable position OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

The City of Ottumwa is seeking a Seasonal Code Enforcement Inspector to work full-time for up to 40 hours weekly. This is seasonal work beginning in April/May for 4 to 6 months. Compensation is $14.00 per hour. Valid driver’s license with good driving record and drug test required. Reports to Building and Code Enforcement Department Director. Will work with Building and Code Enforcement Department Inspectors performing nuisance type inspections such as identifying unmowed yards and junk vehicles, notifying owners and occupants of necessary corrective action. Duties may include taking and printing digital photos of nuisances, preparing notifications and other paperwork required for files, answering phones and taking messages. Must be comfortable interacting with people and be able to use Microsoft Office Word & Excel.
