All Ottumwa residential trash and recycling customers are reminded that curbside yard waste collection resumes for the season on April 1st. Weekly collection is on Tuesday in all neighborhoods on Ottumwa’s south side; north side neighborhoods are collected on Thursday. The first collection day of the season on Ottumwa’s south side will be Tuesday. April 1st; the first day on the north side will be Thursday, April 3rd. Please have yard waste out by 4:00 AM on the collection day.
All customers are reminded that only yard waste bags the “O/W” label are accepted for collection. Yard waste consists of leaves, grass clippings, and or small garden debris. Yard waste bags containing regular trash or construction materials will not be collected.
Leaves and light debris can be placed in the Ottumwa/Wapello yard waste collection bags and put out for curbside collection. The Ottumwa/Wapello yard waste bags cost one dollar at local grocery stores. The cost covers the expense of hauling the debris to the Landfill where it is recycled into mulch. Bags need to be in good condition for collection. Yard waste bags that have been filled over the winter and allowed to get wet and/or spill may be ineligible for collection.
Brush and tree limbs must be properly prepared to be collected. Brush and tree limbs set out for curbside collection must be cut into 36″ lengths, bundled and tied into weights of less than 50 lb. Limbs cannot exceed 3″ in diameter.
Customers with questions about their curbside trash and recycling collection can contact Bridge City Sanitation at 682-1700. As part of the latest trash and recycling collection program, yard waste is only collected from April 1st to November 30th.
